A Sermon Preached By Mr. Daniel Smart On Sunday Afternoon, April 23rd, 1876.

“And Jabez was more honourable than his brethren: and his mother called his name Jabez, saying, Because I bare him with sorrow. And Jabez called on the God of Israel, saying, Oh, that Thou wouldest bless me indeed, and enlarge my coast, and that Thine hand might be with me, and that Thou wouldest keep me from evil, that it may not grieve me! And God granted him that which he requested”—1 Chronicles 4:9,10

“And Jabez was more honourable than his brethren.” What honour God has put upon His saints! Heirs of God and joint-heirs with the Lord Jesus Christ, sons and daughters of the Lord God Almighty! “And if children, then heirs! Oh, to be an heir of glory, formed to show forth the Lord’s everlasting praise in endless bliss above! However mortals might despise God’s people for Christ’s sake, they would be better employed if they had grace to despise themselves, and love His saints for Christ’s sake. But few despise themselves.
