The Philippines

Jared and Elna Smith are preparing to move from England to Southeast Asia. Their vision is to pioneer a Strict and Particular Baptist movement in the Philippines. This will be done by organizing new churches, training gospel ministers and engaging in humanitarian work. Their target date to begin this ministry is June 2019.

“But are there not already many churches organized in the Philippines”, you might ask. Yes, of course! But to our knowledge, there are only a few churches, if any, that belong to the historic circle of churches known as the Strict and Particular Baptists. If you are interested to learn more about who Jared and Elna are and what they aim to do, then we hope the answers to the following questions will be of help.

1. Would you tell us a little bit about yourselves?

2. What type of church do you pastor in London?

3. Aren’t the Reformed Baptists the same as the Strict and Particular Baptists?

4. When did Strict and Particular Baptist churches begin?

5. How many Strict and Particular Baptist churches are there today?

6. Why are the Strict and Particular Baptist churches in such a state of decline?

7. Do you see a future for the Strict and Particular Baptists?

8. How do you envision organizing Strict and Particular Baptist churches in the Philippines?

9. Have you already selected a specific place in the Philippines you hope to begin this work?

10. How do you plan to fund this gospel ministry?
