Year of his Age, and was Interred in Southwark, Jan. 27th. 1692\/3.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Mourn, mourn, O Sion! thou hast Forty lost,<br \/>\nWave upon wave, with Tempest thou art tost<br \/>\nOur Sorrow&#8217;s great, and worser things draw near,<br \/>\nSad Symptoms of most dismal Days appear:<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<blockquote><p>Christ&#8217;s blest Ambassadors are call&#8217;d away,<br \/>\nAnd few these things unto their hearts do lay.<br \/>\nMany we lost before, for which we mourn,<br \/>\nAnd shall we Forty lose without a Groan?<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<blockquote><p>Shall we not sigh for him who lately fell?<br \/>\nOr not deem him a Prince in Israel?<br \/>\nSay if you can, what cause gave he to fear,<br \/>\nHe was not ev&#8217;ry way a Man sincere?\u2028<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<blockquote><p>How many years did he his Master serve?<br \/>\nAnd never from Christ&#8217;s Truth did start or swerve<br \/>\nShall Envy then his Name or Glory stain?<br \/>\nOr Prejudice wound him to death again?\u2028<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<blockquote><p>O let his Name! his precious Name still live,<br \/>\nAnd to his Ashes no Abuses give.<br \/>\nNear Twelve long Years he did in Prison lie,<br \/>\nAs Exeter can fully testify,\u2028<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<blockquote><p>For witnessing unto God&#8217;s holy Truth,<br \/>\nWhich he most dearly loved from his Youth;<br \/>\nAn Instrument was he in Jesus Hand<br \/>\nIn his Converting many in this Land:\u2028<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<blockquote><p>Nay, his own Father and his Mother were<br \/>\nEv&#8217;n both Converted by him (I do hear)<br \/>\nI think without offence, I may declare<br \/>\nFew godly Preachers, gone more spotless were;\u2028<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<blockquote><p>Or with more Clearness did the Gospel Preach,<br \/>\nAnd in his Life shone forth what he did teach.<br \/>\nHe was no flash, he lik&#8217;d no upstart Strains,<br \/>\nNew Schemes he loath&#8217;d, which now our glory stains:<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<blockquote><p>By the Text he left to be insisted on,<br \/>\nAnd opened when he was dead and gone;<br \/>\nYou may perceive on what Foundation he<br \/>\nDid build his Hope of bless&#8217;d Felicity.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<blockquote><p>Altho&#8217; my house is not ev&#8217;n so with God,<br \/>\nMy Heart is dead, and I under the Rod:<br \/>\nTho&#8217; Grace in me do&#8217;s greatly seem to fade,<br \/>\nAnd many Deaths and Sorrows me invade;\u2028<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<blockquote><p>Text<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<blockquote><p>Tho&#8217; friends seem strange, and wants do theaten me,<br \/>\nAnd Pain and Anguish much increased be;<br \/>\nAltho&#8217; I faint for the sweet water Streams,<br \/>\nAnd feel not those Soul-warming Sun-like Gleams,<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<blockquote><p>Tho&#8217; in my Father&#8217;s House I can&#8217;t appear,<br \/>\nTo have Communion my poor Soul to cheer<br \/>\nAt the bless&#8217;d Table of my dearest Lord,<br \/>\nWhich formerly did so much Strength afford;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<blockquote><p>Tho&#8217; I sit all-alone and weep each day,<br \/>\nAnd nights seem grievous rest b&#8217;ing took away,<br \/>\nAltho&#8217; my Heart is alost broke with Grief,<br \/>\nSin so abounds, and Sion wants Relief;\u2028<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<blockquote><p>Her Sorrows still abide on ev&#8217;ry hand,<br \/>\nHer Sons divided are, so is the Land;<br \/>\nSad Wars without, and Wars also within<br \/>\nSuch Wars &#8216;mongst Saints has scarcely ever been.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<blockquote><p>Both Earth and Heav&#8217;n too, now shaken be<br \/>\nPlain signs of some dismal Catastrophe:<br \/>\nAltho&#8217; my Faith is small and Love is cold,<br \/>\nAnd am distressed by what I behold;\u2028<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<blockquote><p>And tho&#8217; the Pillars of my house do shake,<br \/>\nMy Eyes grow dim, and Hands grow very weak,<br \/>\nAnd tho&#8217; in my own self I nothing am,<br \/>\nAnd for my Sins God might me justly damn:<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<blockquote><p>Yet he a Covenant hath made with me,<br \/>\nWhich is Eternal, cannot broken be;<br \/>\nFor it is order&#8217;d well in ev&#8217;ry thing,<br \/>\nAnd &#8217;tis from hence my Hope and Joy do&#8217;s spring.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<blockquote><p>Nay, this is all my Hope, and my Desire,<br \/>\n&#8216;Tis this that raises up my Soul yet higher.<br \/>\nAnd when on this I do contemplate<br \/>\nI neither matter Mens nor Devils Hate:\u2028<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<blockquote><p>This Covenant affords me such Relief<br \/>\nIt strengthens me, and kills my unbelief:<br \/>\nI hereby see, and know God is my God,<br \/>\nAnd tho&#8217; I for my sins do bear his Rod;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<blockquote><p>Yet he his Loving-kindness won&#8217;t remove,<br \/>\nAltho&#8217; he doth me fatherly reprove.<br \/>\nAfter this sort, methinks I heard him speak,<br \/>\nWhilst he was here, and lay so sick and weak;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<blockquote><p>But now he&#8217;s gone to that sweet place of Joy,<br \/>\nWhere Sin nor Sorrow shall him more annoy:<br \/>\nHe fell asleep in Jesus, and shall lie<br \/>\nIn his sweet Arms unto Eternity.\u2028<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<blockquote><p>This Covenant hath set upon his Head<br \/>\nThat glorious Crown his Saviour merited;<br \/>\nA Morning without Clouds his Soul do&#8217;s see,<br \/>\nWhich so shall last unto Eternity.\u2028<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<blockquote><p>Like to the Sun&#8217;s sweet shining after Rain,<br \/>\nOr, like a Captive Prince turn&#8217;d home again<br \/>\nThat has in Bondage been for many year<br \/>\nAnd when Christ comes, his Glory will appear.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<blockquote><p>Which now approaches and draws very near.<br \/>\nHis Body therefore tho&#8217; Intomb&#8217;d in Earth,<br \/>\nShall quickly rise and gloriously shine forth.<br \/>\nAwake ye Virgins then, and sleep no more.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<blockquote><p>Prepare with speed, the Bridegroom&#8217;s at the door;<br \/>\nO watch!
