{"id":24306,"date":"2025-02-25T23:43:17","date_gmt":"2025-02-25T23:43:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.baptists.net\/history\/?p=24306"},"modified":"2025-02-25T23:44:25","modified_gmt":"2025-02-25T23:44:25","slug":"the-life-and-death-of-george-firbank","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.baptists.net\/history\/2025\/02\/the-life-and-death-of-george-firbank\/","title":{"rendered":"The Life And Death Of George Firbank"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Earthen Vessel 1913:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Our dear brother, for many years pastor of the Baptist Chapel, Haverhill, passed away to his much-desired rest on December 8<sup>th<\/sup>, 1912, in his 85<sup>th<\/sup> year, leaving in this vale of tears to mourn his loss, an aged widow, aged 91 years, also a son and daughter, who are looking forward when they, too, shall join their beloved one in the rest that remained and where partings are unknown.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>During his last illness the writer visited him often. His hope in Christ was firm and his faith in the finished work of his beloved Lord unshaken.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>On one occasion the writer said to him, \u201cHe hath said, \u2018I will never leave thee.\u2019\u201d His reply was, \u201cI know it, brother; He had told me so.\u201d Not long before his happy spirit took its flight to be for ever with the Lord he said, \u201cI feel this mud-walled cottage shake, and long to see it fall.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>We laid his mortal remains in the grave in Cavendish Cemetery on December 12<sup>th<\/sup>, 1912, in sure and certain hope of a joyful resurrection. May our last end be like his. So prays,<\/p>\n<p>J.
