Before the worlds began,<\/p>\n
And ye who tread where He hath trod,<\/p>\n
Crown Him the Son of Man;<\/p>\n
Who every grief hath known,<\/p>\n
That wrings the human breast,<\/p>\n
And takes and bears them for His own,<\/p>\n
That all in Him may rest.<\/p>\n
3 Crown Him the Lord of life,<\/p>\n
Who triumphed over the grave,<\/p>\n
And rose victorious in the strife,<\/p>\n
For those He came to save.<\/p>\n
His glories now we sing,<\/p>\n
Who died, and rose on high,<\/p>\n
Who died eternal life to bring,<\/p>\n
And lives that death may die.<\/p>\n
4 Crown Him the Lord of peace,<\/p>\n
Whose power a scepter sways;<\/p>\n
From pole to pole, that wars may cease,<\/p>\n
And all be prayer and praise.<\/p>\n
His reign shall know no end,<\/p>\n
And round His pierced feet,<\/p>\n
Fair flowers of paradise extend,<\/p>\n
Their fragrance ever sweet.<\/p>\n
5 Crown Him the Lord of love,<\/p>\n
Behold His hands and side,<\/p>\n
Those wounds, yet visible above,<\/p>\n
In beauty glorified.<\/p>\n
No angel in the sky,<\/p>\n
Can fully bear that sight,<\/p>\n
But downward bends His burning eye,<\/p>\n
At mysteries so bright.<\/p>\n
6 Crown Him the Lord of Heaven,<\/p>\n
Enthroned in worlds above,<\/p>\n
Crown Him the King to Whom is given,<\/p>\n
The wondrous name of Love.<\/p>\n
Crown Him with many crowns,<\/p>\n
As thrones before Him fall;<\/p>\n
Crown Him, ye kings, with many crowns,<\/p>\n
For He is King of all.<\/p>\n
7 Crown Him the Lord of lords,<\/p>\n
Who over all doth reign,<\/p>\n
Who once on earth, the incarnate Word,<\/p>\n
For ransomed sinners slain,<\/p>\n
Now lives in realms of light,<\/p>\n
Where saints with angels sing,<\/p>\n
Their songs before Him day and night,<\/p>\n
Their God, Redeemer, King.<\/p>\n
8 Crown Him the Lord of years,<\/p>\n
The Potentate of time,<\/p>\n
Creator of the rolling spheres,<\/p>\n
Ineffably sublime.<\/p>\n
All hail, Redeemer, hail!<\/p>\n
For Thou has died for me;<\/p>\n
Thy praise and glory shall not fail,<\/p>\n
Throughout eternity.<\/p>\n
