\u201dHe that eateth my flesh, and drinketh my blood, dwelleth in me, and I in him.\u201d\u2014John 6:56<\/strong><\/p>\n

This is a great mystery, but it is a comforting truth in the experience of Christ\u2019s members. Our Saviour saith, \u2018It is my meat to do the will of him that sent me.\u2019 So it is the believer\u2019s privilege to feed by faith on him that is sent, even the flesh and blood of Jesus: the Man \u2018like unto ourselves in all things.\u2019 But his flesh is pure and holy, his blood immaculate and untainted, without sin: therefore healthful for the soul to feed upon, and to be nourished up to eternal life. Consider, Christ suffered in the flesh all the fiery wrath and dreadful curses of God\u2019s pure and holy law which we deserved, because transgressors. Christ, in his flesh, perfectly fulfilled all the demands of God\u2019s righteous Jaw, and so wrought out a righteousness for us, who have no \u2018righteousness of our own. \u2019In the body of his flesh\u2019 he hath reconciled us who were aliens and enemies to God; and \u2018in the body of his flesh,\u2019 through death, he presents us unto God, holy, unblameable, and unreproveable in his sight. Col. 1:22. Surely then the flesh of Jesus \u2018is meat indeed;\u2019 the richest repast, the most delicious banquet for poor sinners.<\/p>\n

Christ\u2019s \u2018blood is drink indeed:\u2019 most precious in its nature, most reviving to the thirsty soul. Oh believer, the blood of this God-Man was shed for thy sins; it hath fully atoned divine justice for them; and \u2018you who were sometime afar off, are now made nigh by the blood of Jesus.\u2019 Eph. 2:13. \u2018By his blood, peace is made with God.\u2019 Col. 1:20. \u2018And the blood of Jesus cleanseth from all sin.\u2019 1 John 1:7. Thus is Christ\u2019s flesh and blood the life of the soul. Hear the triumphant song of the saints in glory. \u2018Jesus hath loved us, and washed us from our sins in his own blood.\u2019 Rev. 1:5. Their confession of victory over Satan, the accuser of their souls, is \u2018by the blood of the Lamb.\u2019 What is now their glory and triumph above, was once the food of their souls while here below. For in every age, believers did all \u2018eat of the same spiritual meat, and drink of the same spiritual drink, the flesh and blood of Christ.\u2019 1 Cor. 10:3.<\/p>\n

This food strengthens man\u2019s heart; this drink makes him of a cheerful countenance. \u2018He dwelleth in me,\u2019 saith Christ, by a secret mystical union. So saith the psalmist, \u201cLord, thou hast been our dwelling place in all ages.\u201d And I in him,\u2019 by sweet manifestation, knowledge and comfort, by faith. Inestimable blessing, glorious privilege, thus to receive, thus to feed upon Christ in the heart by faith. For, saith Christ, \u2018He that eateth me, shall live by me; he hath eternal life.\u2019 Such are Christ\u2019s sweet words and hearty-welcome to his church: Eat, oh friends; drink, oh beloved. Eat thy bread with joy, and drink thy wine with a merry heart. Eccles. 9:7<\/p>\n
