Andrew Fuller And Moderate-Calvinism (Episode 6)

The Baptist Particular Podcast serves as an analysis of Particular Baptist history and theology from a Hyper-Calvinist point of view.

This Episode: Andrew Fuller was a reactionary theologian, basing his teachings on the immediate and subjective issues which confronted him at various points throughout his ministry. He was not a fan of systematic theologies, believing it is better for a Christian to approach doctrine as a florist in admiration of his flower displays, rather than that of a botanist dissecting and classifying their structures. It was in this way Fuller was able to avoid the construction of his own systematic theology, allowing him to leave open ended the self-contradictory teachings that are scattered throughout his writings. Nevertheless, it is possible to do with Fuller’s writings what he refused to do for himself—arrange his teachings into a body of divinity. At the heart of what has become known as Fullerism, is the theological framework of Moderate-Calvinism. Jared argues, based on the writings of Fuller himself, that this is the key to unlocking Fuller’s teachings and discovering the basis upon which he introduced a number of serious modifications to the 17th century confessional statements and orthodox Christianity.
