    1 Hyper Calvinist Quotes

    August 22, 2023 /

Mark you; many of our fine so-called ministers talk about offering salvation: and men refusing: they might as well go to the farthest and of the coal pit, and command the coal to rise up, and walk out of itself. God says, “I will bring them;” and that not part of the way merely; no: but through the fire, and try them; purify them: put a living, crying soul into them: and answer them in the joy of their hearts: so that they shall say, “the Lord is my God; and I will say they are my people.” W. Skelton: “Such are the notions [misinterpreting the scriptures] of Wesleyans, Fullerites, Mongrel Calvinists, and Modem Baptists.” W. Tant: “All the efforts of man—all the strategems of…

    Divine Sovereignty And Human Responsibility?

    August 18, 2023 /

Hyper-Calvinists are often accused of minimizing the responsibility of man by magnifying the sovereignty of God. This is a false charge and an erroneous dichotomy.  Rather than minimizing the responsibility of man, Hyper-Calvinists rightly identify it. They believe unregenerate sinners are responsible to God according to the terms and promises of the covenant of works, for it is under the authority of that covenant they are in relationship to God. On the other hand, regenerate sinners are responsible to God according to the terms and promises of the covenant of grace, for it is under the authority of that covenant they are in relationship with God. Experientially speaking, the turning point for a sinner between the two covenants is regeneration, which is not conditioned (spiritually…

The Free Offer Of The Gospel

    August 15, 2023 /

The free offer of the gospel is not only a presumptuous act on the part of the preacher, it also contradicts the nature of the gospel, setting forth a false message to unregenerate sinners. While it is a good tool for proselyting, it is a disgraceful tactic for evangelism. There is a vast difference between preaching and offering. The scriptures make clear the gospel is to be freely preached, but there is not a single reference it is to be offered. Hyper Calvinists are often accused of preaching the gospel only to the elect. This is not true. Hyper Calvinists preach a full and free gospel to everyone. They do not, however, presumptuously offer the gospel to anyone. The gospel is God's to give (through…

    “Passing Away”

    August 14, 2023 /

Fragments Of A Sermon Preached By Jared Smith To The Covenant Baptist Church Meeting In Manila, Philippines, On Sunday, 13 August 2023 The expression ('passing away') is customarily used with reference to one's death, but the scriptures employ it with a wide range of applications. 1. We are to 'pass away' from the path of the wicked (Prov 4:14,15) 2. Those who abuse us and despitefully use us will 'pass away' (Job 6:15) 3. Our days will 'pass away' (Ps 144:3,4; Job 9:25,26; Ps 90:10-12) 4. Each generation will 'pass away' (Ecc 1:4) 5. The wicked will 'pass away' (Ps 58:8) 6. Rich people and their luxury will 'pass away' (Js 1:9-11; 1 Tim 6:17-19) 7. Our welfare and prosperity will 'pass away' (Job 30:15)…

The Life And Character Of Stephen Charnock

    August 12, 2023 /

Stephen Charnock, B. D., was born in the year 1628, in the parish of St. Katharine Cree, London. His father, Mr. Richard Charnock, practised as a solicitor in the Court of Chancery, and was descended from a family of some antiquity in Lancashire. Stephen, after a course of preparatory study, entered himself, at an early period of life, a student in Emmanuel College, Cambridge, where he was placed under the immediate tuition of the celebrated Dr. William Sancroft, who became afterwards Archbishop of Canterbury. Although there is too much reason to fear that colleges seldom prove the spiritual birthplaces of the youth that attend them, it was otherwise in this case. The Sovereign Spirit, who worketh where and how he wills, had determined that this…

Inaugural Address To The Churches, Delivered At The Annual Meeting Of The Metropolitan Association Of Strict Baptist Churches, March 10th, 1891, By The President, Mr. W. K. Squirrell, Pastor Of Hill Street, Dorset Square, Marylebone.  “Go in this thy might.”—Judges 6:14 Dear Brethren,—next to my call by grace, I feel it is my highest privilege to belong to the Strict and Particular Baptist Denomination; a denomination that, amidst all the tendency of the times towards indefiniteness, and the hollow cries of spurious charity, abides by the truth of God, and adheres to New Testament order of Church government. Thank God, dear brethren, we believe something, and that something is increasingly dear to us as our rule of faith and practice, "For the mouth of the…
