Not As The World Giveth
The Lord Jesus, ever careful for the wellbeing and feelings of His beloved friends, has delivered words of comfort and encouragement to His soon to be bereft disciples. Speaking these things ‘being yet present’ implies His imminent departure from them. The Lord has spoken of mansions prepared for them in His Father’s house. He has promised to supply them with power by sending the Holy Spirit to comfort them and intimated how He Himself, with His Father, will come to dwell in them. Though spoken personally to the disciples these present spiritual graces and eternal heavenly promises are every believer’s possession.

Salvation Is By Distinguishing Grace
Oh thou man of God, let not this truth forsake thee; ‘bind it about thy neck, write it upon the table of thine heart; it shall be health to thy navel, and marrow to thy bones.’ Prov. 3:3, 8. In the faith of this, thou wilt live in love and gratitude to God, in cheerful obedience to his sovereign will, and in confident hope and earnest expectation of eternal glory. While thou wilt be daily dying to every carnal hope and legal confidence, by the atonement and righteousness of Jesus, his grace will be all thy plea, all thy hope, and all thy glorying.

The first two chapters in the Epistle of Paul to the Hebrews lay the foundation for all that the Apostle has to say later on in this most remarkable part of God’s Holy Word. Chapter 1 tells us, without a shadow of a doubt, that the Lord Jesus Christ is the Son of God. More than that, it tells us something even greater. If I may just put it like this: those of us who live in Chippenham and walk down the High Street will often see a little band of people on the river bridge with various tracts.
