Expository Notes On Psalm 37:1-7: Keeping The Boundary
Notes On The Structure 1. It is believed David wrote the Psalm a few years before his death—“I have been young, and now am old; yet have I not seen the righteous forsaken, nor his seed begging bread.” (Ps 37:25) Upon reflection in his old age, he explored the question, Why does God allow the wicked to prosper while leaving His people in difficult circumstances? 2. Within the first seven verses, David gives a twofold description of the problem (1,2 and 7b) with a single statement on a prescribed solution (3-7a). 3. The problem (1,2 and 7b) is not the prosperity of the wicked, but the discontentment and covetousness of the Lord’s people. David points out the obvious—the prosperity of the wicked is short-lived.

This was a discovery experimentally made and feelingly expressed by David in a time of great trouble. This trouble was very complicated. We learn from the second verse of the Psalm it was bodily and painful; from the fourth, that it was accompanied by sleepless nights; from the third, that it was soul trouble, and overwhelmed his spirit; and from other verses, that it brought him to the border of despair, and led him to ask, "Will the Lord cast off for ever? and will He be favourable no more?" and other similar questions. All The Way My Savior Leads Me
The Apostle Paul instructed the churches at Colosse to teach and admonish one another in psalms, hymns and spiritual songs. That's what I intend to do by explaining the meaning of this hymn—All The Way My Savior Leads Me. And I’d like to give an explanation according to the Framework of Sovereign Grace, which is God's master plan for the ages. You'll notice the hymn was written by Fanny Crosby. This was a 19th century American poet and composer. In fact, she wrote more than 8,000 hymns, of which of course, this is one of them. Allow me to read for you the three stanzas of the hymn:
