Rejoicing In Hope
The Apostle in this chapter exhorts the believing Romans to the exercise of the grace of HOPE, engraven in their hearts by the Holy Ghost, who had called them "out of darkness into marvellous light." Time will not allow me to enter on the other exhortations contained in this chapter, but only to call your attention to the one in the text. Hope is one of the graces of the Spirit, and a very blessed grace it is. The Apostle pronounces it to be, "A good hope through grace," and we are assured it is ''As an anchor of the soul, both sure and steadfast, and which

The Redeemed Of The Lord Shall Return
‘A good word maketh the heart glad.’ Prov. 12:25. This is true of the good word of gospel-grace. Unscriptural notions of conditional grace and salvation deject the spirits of sensible sinners. God’s free grace declarations and absolute promises revive the hearts of contrite ones. Man’s ifs, suppositions, and peradventures, tend to counteract God’s shalls and wills, his gracious purposes and loving determinations. Where the word of a king is, there is power: ‘and who may say unto him, what dost thou?’ Eccles. 8:4. In the word of Jehovah there is almighty power: ‘He doth according to his will in the army of heaven, and among the inhabitants of the earth: none can stay his hand, or say unto him, what dost thou?’ Dan. 4:35.

Why Do We Mourn Departed Saints
The Apostle Paul instructed the churches at Colosse to teach and admonish one another in psalms, hymns and spiritual songs. And that's what I intend to do by explaining the meaning of this hymn—Why Do We Mourn Departed Saints? I like to explain the meaning of the hymn against the backdrop of the Framework of Sovereign Grace, which is God's master plan for the ages. You'll notice the hymn was written by Isaac Watts. This was an 18th century sovereign grace Congregational preacher, also known as the father of Hymnody. Now, there's three stanzas to the hymn. I’d like to read them to you.
