Martin Rinkart
Martin Rinkart (1586-1649) was a German Lutheran churchman and hymn writer. He served as deacon at Eisleben and archdeacon at Eilenburg. He is best known for the hymn, “Now Thank We All Our God”, translated into English by Catherine Winkworth.

1 Chronicles 29:10-19: "Wherefore David blessed the LORD before all the congregation: and David said, Blessed be thou, LORD God of Israel our father, for ever and ever. Thine, O LORD, is the greatness, and the power, and the glory, and the victory, and the majesty: for all that is in the heaven and in the earth is thine; thine is the kingdom, O LORD, and thou art exalted as head above all. The Life And Ministry Of Martin Rinkart
After passing through the Latin school at Eilenburg, he became, in Nov., 1601, a foundation scholar and chorister of the St. Thomas's School at Leipzig. This scholarship also allowed him to proceed to the University of Leipzig, where he matriculated for the summer session of 1602, as a student of Theology; and after the completion of his course he remained for some time in Leipzig (he did not take his M.A. till 1616).
